Getting Started

We make affordable car loans in Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas. Your monthly take-home pay needs to be $2,000 or more. Does this sound like you? Get started here

Absolutely not! We take your credit history into account, but that’s not all we look at. We get to know you to determine whether or not you will qualify for a car loan.

No, that’s not how we work. We offer affordable loans at below market rates to qualified applicants and like any loan, this requires a payment each month. Our goal is to help you lead a happier, healthier life through vehicle ownership.

Your maximum car payment is determined by your monthly income and overall budget to ensure an affordable and sustainable loan. All applications are unique and each applicant works with our team of coaches and underwriters to assess your financial situation and find a payment plan that fits your needs.

Beyond the price of your vehicle at the dealership, there are many additional costs to consider, such as taxes, registration, maintenance, and fuel. Additionally, full coverage insurance is required by your lender, and On the Road Lending requires full coverage insurance on all financed vehicles to protect both you and your investment. We have a brief description of them here.

Our Process

  • We typically consider refinancing vehicles that are three to five years old with less than 70,000 miles. When evaluating refinancing options, we assess how much is owed on the vehicle compared to its current value. The finance amount is typically determined based on what is available after all expenses. If you have a high-interest loan and your loan amount is close to the value of your vehicle, refinancing may be a good option. However, if you owe significantly more than your vehicle's trade-in value (commonly known as negative equity or being "upside down" on the loan), trading it in can be costly, and it's important to carefully consider all your options.

  • We realize that your credit history only tells part of your story. Unexpected life events, health issues and other problems can hurt your credit score. That's why we consider other factors to determine whether or not you are a fit for our lending services. We want to know who you are and what you're working hard to become.

  • There is no application fee, but there are fees associated with required GPS tracking. We also require you to secure gap insurance and a warranty.

  • On the Road Lending is able to keep interest rates low thanks to the generous support of socially responsible investors and financial institutions. People in our community invest in our loan fund to create a positive social impact, accepting a lower return on their investment to help others achieve financial stability. Additionally, banks provide us with special social impact interest rates, and our nonprofit partner, OTR Resources, secures grants and loans from banks and investors to further support our mission. This collaborative approach allows us to offer affordable financing and help more people access reliable transportation.

  • On the Road Lending helps you get a car loan by using our staff's expertise to guide you through the car selection process. We research and assist you in selecting a car with good value from a reliable, local dealer who supports our program. Our team ensures the vehicles are reliable, fuel-efficient, and under warranty, helping you make an informed choice for your needs and budget.

Liability

This type of insurance is required in all states except New Hampshire.

Collision

Collision insurance covers damage caused to your vehicle in an auto accident. You’re covered whether you hit a car, a pole, a tree or any other nonliving/inanimate object. It doesn’t matter whether the accident is your fault or someone else’s.

Comprehensive

Comprehensive covers damage to your car in some way other than a collision including fire, theft, vandalism, flooding, or hitting an animal. Most comprehensive policies also offer glass coverage.

GAP

This type of insurance protects you when you owe money on a depreciated vehicle. In the event of an accident in which you’ve badly damaged or totaled your car, gap insurance covers the difference between what a vehicle is currently worth (which your standard insurance will pay) and the amount you actually owe on it.

Why Do You Need These Coverages?

Because liability insurance alone does not cover damage to your car—only cars you hit. And GAP insurance protects your financial well-being.

Repairs

Repairs can come up unexpectedly. SUVs and luxury cars have higher cost for repairs that you should consider when choosing a car.

Fuel

Your fuel costs vary according to the type of car you buy and the number of miles you drive. Poor gas mileage leads to higher out-of-pocket expense at the gas pump. The car we choose together will take all of this into consideration.

Maintenance

It is important to take good care of your car because it is an asset. These costs include routine maintenance, such as oil changes, tire rotation, and replacing worn out parts.

Parking & Tolls

We can help you include these everyday costs in your budget.

Why Do You Need To Consider These Things?

Cars cost more than just the car payment. We will help you budget for these hidden costs.

Checklist For Test Drive

Once we’ve approved your auto loan financing, it’s time for you to head out to a dealership to test drive your new vehicle. At On The Road Lending, we strive to ensure that you purchase a quality used vehicle from a reputable dealer. However, it’s important to note that since you’re purchasing a used car, some imperfections such as minor wear and tear, dings, or spots on the upholstery may be present. These are acceptable as long as they are not significant and do not affect the car’s performance. If a car doesn’t run well and the dealer promises to fix it, we’ll simply move on to another car selection.

As we cannot be on location with you during your test drive, we’ve created a helpful guide below. If you haven’t completed an application for our affordable auto financing yet, learn more about our loan process here. We offer auto loan financing to individuals with bad credit or no credit history in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas.

  • If Dealership promises Repairs or Services after you take possession of a car, always get this promise in writing on a “We Owe” form.
  • We recommend that you bring someone with you that is knowledgeable with vehicles to help determine the condition of the car or pay a mechanic for a professional opinion. AutoZone or other parts store may offer free scan for engine codes.
  • Review CARFAX or AUTOCHECK REPORTS for prior damage, accidents and inconsistencies. We do not Finance Branded Titles (Salvage Rebuild, Flood, Lemon)
  • Considerations: You are purchasing a used car and some cars may have imperfections such as small, normal wear and tear, dings or a spot on the upholstery. This is ok as long as they are not drastic and interfere with the car performance. If a car does not run well and a dealer promises to fix it, we will just move on to a new car selection. If the repair or service is minor, you may get a written promises on a repair or service. You will want to make the car available for the repair to be completed within 2 weeks of taking possession. Purchasing a car is a big investment, it is always recommended to take the car to your mechanic for inspection when possible.
